First time in, and I must confess, I was blown away. I've had the real deal in Philly, and this is about as close as you can get. It's a little pricey, but that's to be expected, considering their location. The food came quickly, and the service was great. I'll be back for sure. If you like cheesesteaks, this is far and away the best in town.

When it comes to a philly cheesesteak the messier the better. Grants does not disappoint, I had mine traditional whiz wit (with grilled onion and cheese whiz) though I also add provolone to it. The sandwich was oozing (but in a good way 😉) and the home made chips that come with were amazing. I'd suggest to anyone who has been to Jim's in Philly and want something similar, or to anyone wanting a really good philly.

I would give them 5 stars but the pricing has me dripping it down to four but s STRONG four stars. Place is small and kind of dingy feeling on the inside but it definitely feels homely. We were welcomed with a big smile by the wonderful, elderly woman behind the counter. Food came out pretty fast but let's get to the real stuff...the cheesesteak. I'm giving the sandwich 5 stars. It's packed with flavor and I absolute loved the peppers they add. They're the ones that are a little spicy and a little tangy. They are just bomb and compliments the sandwich perfectly. Having lived in S. Jersey and worked and partied in Philly for years, I have a good understanding of a proper cheesesteak and they kill it here! And I'm not taking about that Pat or Gino's "cheesesteak" b/c those are only good at 2am in your drunken 20's. Aside for then, they are not good but hey! They EVEN offer the wiz here as an option..and that's legit, if you like that kind of thing.

There are not many philly cheese steak places downtown Portland but this is definitely a good one. It hits the spot when you need that guilt pleasure. Casual place where you order at the bar.
